Hear advice from gay fathers who have gone through the surrogacy journey without a partner, and meet like-minded individuals. The session will be facilitated by Elliott Kronenfeld, a certified therapist and a single father through adoption and gestational surrogacy. Elliott will also be available throughout the weekend as a resource on related issues.
In this session we will examine the psychological, social and ethical concerns that some prospective parents and surrogates may feel in advance of this joint journey, and might stand in the way of having an open and connected process. We will then offer possible coping mechanisms, support resources and best practices to address these concerns.
For gay men who want to become parents through surrogacy, the Men Having Babies educational conferences are a rare opportunity to get under one roof a wealth of information, advice and access a wide range of relevant service providers — and from an unbiased non-profit organization.
In his session, Elliott will provide an in-depth look at the psychological and ethical aspects of surrogacy for gay men who want to become parents.

As couples face the reality of fertility challenges, men are often resistant to seeking support and psychological help. Couples struggle as sex and intimacy become transactional as they get further into their fertility protocols and are left without knowing how to remain connected and unified. More often than not, the female partner will find ample supports as the primary medicalized patient, leaving a male partner to fend for himself. In nonheteronormative couples, finding meaningful supports is even more confusing!
In his session, Elliott will identify strategies to engage clients in a conversation about the importance of support for men and couples in the fertility process.
Learning how to incorporate the human body and sexual self into the work we do with clients is critical at all ages and life's stages. In his session, Elliott will introduce participants to the power and approaches of client-centered sex therapy with a variety of applications that can be used for different client groups.
The program will include didactic instruction, case review, and in-session experiential learning.
The celebration will include book reading and signing.
Appetizers, soft drinks and wine will be offered.
Books will be available to purchase at the event.
